Tell Your Mum she’s a star

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, Loveone’s owner Cathy  talks about the meaning of the day for her.

Thoughts from Cathy:

Behind the commercial trappings of one of the main gift buying occasions of the year lies a very sincere message…Say thanks to a very special person.

For me its a day of mixed emotions, having lost my own mother to breast cancer shortly after becoming a mother myself. The day is now a mixture of being nostalgic and reflective of my own mother, but also enjoying and celebrating the day with my own children.

Even more poignant this year as Hannah, my eldest, is about to embark on her Uni career, probably heading to London in the autumn.

This landmark in her life has made me reflect on the effect my leaving home to head to college had on my mum…

picking up the pieces when I didn’t get my grades…

leaving me in my first shared house with a bunch of students I had only just met with no saucepans, a boxed of tinned food and no heating..there were tears!

the joy of bin bags of washing at the end of term..these were left outside for days as my student house smelt damp and musty

only getting 1 phone call a week…long before texting and facebook

sending me food parcels and teaching me a fail proof cheese sauce which could cover everything…mostly toast!

But mainly for always being there quietly supporting in the background…

I hope my daughter will head off safe in the knowledge that I will be there at the end of the phone…or twitter.. with persil, tissues, and tins of beans as required.

So this Mothers Day I will be looking back but going forward with very happy memories and more to come on my future journey as a mother!

Enjoy your Mothers Day 10th March
